For such a big city, Medan's nightlife is surprisingly subdued. Lyn's, at Jl Jend A Yani 98, is one of the few karaoke-free joints in town. With a dartboard, a piano and a well-stocked bar, it's the closest you'll come to a British pub in Medan. The Tavern Pub, part of the Danau Toba complex, offers draught beer and live music. The Ari Kink Kink Disco, also in the grounds of the Hotel Danau Toba, has an excellent sound system, and is, by quite some distance, the trendiest and most popular in town. You need to buy a drink at the door (beers cost Rp12500), though there is no extra entry charge. The same entrance policy is enforced by the Haus Musik Nightclub on Jalan Sutoyo, just 50m east of the bridge, which draws a younger crowd and is also the club of choice for Medan's gay community.
