Lendang Nangka
Developed single-handedly as a tourist destination by local teacher Haji Radiah, LENDANG NANGKA is a small farming community 2km north of the main cross-island road, and served by cidomo and ojek from Bagik Bontong . Although the scenery is not as picturesque as in Tetebatu, the atmosphere is much more welcoming and there's a wealth of walks around the village. Established in 1983, Radiah's Homestay ($5-10 including three meals), the original accommodation , is still the best. You can either stay in rooms in the family compound or in larger, newer rooms in a house in the local fields. It's right in the middle of the village, but tucked away behind the school, so ask for directions. Radiah is also a Perama agent (book the day before). A couple of rival losmen are nearby: Pondok Wira ($5-10 including meals) and Pondok Sasak (under $10), further from the village centre on the same road. However, the best alternative are the garden bungalows at Pondok Bambu (Rp25,000 per person including three meals), 500m north of Lendang Nangka, and signed from the road to Kembang Kuning.
